Truman
This is a nice story that kept my little one entertained, but it’s not one that we read over and over. I don’t know too many little ones that want to cuddle with a turtle or have a turtle as a pet or even know that much about turtles (though older kids may truly want a turtle). And it is fairly unique for the author to want to write about a turtle. But, also the way the story is set in a city in a small apartment and a busy street and the turtle lives in an aquarium doesn’t make for a warm happy setting that little ones dream about or relate to.
But, still, it’s a good story and the illustrations are well done and it’s worth the read. It could be an introduction to or a conversation about turtles or the city or even the first day of school (which is part of the story).
Cautions: Truman is left home alone when the main character has to go to school, so thinking about that could be upsetting to a little one that can make that connection to their own home. However, it’s not written in a way that is scary when Truman is at home so it shouldn’t be a big issue.
