The Apple Pie Tree
We really wanted to put this one in the skip category, and we personally don’t feel a need to read it again. The book is extremely simple. Too simple. It’s about a tree as it moves through the seasons and the characters gather apples for pie. Most of the pages are one sentence and the language and sentences are very simple. The illustrations are simple too, looking like someone cut pieces of paper in different shapes and glued them to the pages (a style we’ve seen in multiple kids’ books).
However, there’s nothing wrong with this book or story so it’s in this category. It may be nice for really young little ones that aren’t talking yet to learn language. It also leaves open the door to talk about seasons or trees and how they grow and develop.
Based on the book jacket, this is the second book by this author and the first one some awards. We’ll try to get the other book and see if that one is better. I’m afraid this one is derivative of the other and tried to use a similar formula to get the same success as the first, a strategy that rarely works well.
