The Busy Little Squirrel

This has to be subtly the meanest little kids’ book I’ve read so far. My wife and I found it hilarious, causing my wife to laugh out loud when she read the end. My bet is this book was written less to entertain little ones and more to poke at Mary, who the book is dedicated to.

It’s possible this is why the book is a simple story and a simple book. Little ones will not find it to be a mean book. They’ll probably find it to be a good read once, but our little one was bored after the first read. It’s also a fast read, being repetitive and less than 150 words. The illustrations are fine, realistic and descriptive, focused on a few moments of a squirrel’s life in the fall, but they don’t make the book worth buying or the story worth reading over and over.

It’s a fine book, a good read, it’s just not unique.

Cautions: Nothing to be concerned about.
