little tree

This is a fantastic book that is just as much for the adult reading it as it for the child listening. The message, which is about letting go, looking forward, growing and maturing, in real life, is complicated and difficult, yet simple and often the right solution. And even though it is complicated, I truly believe when I talked through it with my little one, by focusing on the simplicity, my little one understood what we were talking about. Now I may have to explain the message to my little one over and over, every time we read it, but honestly, I need to hear the message over and over too.

The illustrations are softly, colorfully and beautifully drawn. While the tree is the main character, and usually my little one doesn’t really relate to inanimate objects as main characters, in this one my little one did. There are also cute little animals throughout the book, and the combination of the animals and the trees works perfectly. At one point, after the little tree decided to let go, my little one exclaimed, “now the squirrels can go up and down the little tree!”
