This is a cute, fast moving story with a bunny, LaRue, at the center. It’s a story I’d be happy to repeatedly read to my little one, though my little one wasn’t overly interested in hearing it multiple times. My best guess is because it is a descriptive story of what the author imagines the main character, LaRue, who is a little bunny, doing during the day. It’s not overly unique or creative or imaginative, though again, it’s a good story and I would be happy for my little one to imitate LaRue. LaRue is industrious, a hard worker, and kind.

As for the illustrations, the animals are visually expressive and relatable. My litte one knew what was going on and how the characters were all feeling from the illustrations.

The part of the book my little one especially enjoyed was the two page spread where you have to turn the book sideways to see how big the carrot LaRue has is. But my little one also raised a lot of concern over how bunnies can’t drive vehicles, big trucks or construction equipment and that bunnies can’t even use power tools… At first I simply found that entertaining, but I do think the book’s inability to draw my little one into the imagination of the situation is what kept it from being a favorite we read over and over.

Cautions: This is more of a heads up, than a caution, but when reading this one, depending on the age and understanding of the little one listening, you might have to explain why a bird’s house might blow away or a boat might sink.
