Pooch on the Loose

If you are looking for a Christmas story, this is technically a Christmas book, but it’s not really a Christmas story. It’s a story of a puppy that runs away from its owner in New York City and the Christmas aspect is more a side thought to a story that was clearly written by someone who loves New York City, to celebrate New York City.

The story is simple language, small words and short sentences. It’s written from the perspective and voice of the puppy and doesn’t include complex thoughts or insights, it’s just descriptive of the day. It’s possible it’s because it’s supposed to be a dog’s voice and mind, and the author thinks dogs are simple, or maybe it’s written in that style because the author thinks it’s necessary for it to be simple as the audience is very young, but it’s not really necessary and makes the story too basic.

Illustrations are not my favorite style, they’re cartoony, but if you appreciate that style, they’re not bad.

Cautions: The only thing we noticed is the dog at one point steals a pretzel from a random person and that had to be discussed with my little one.
