Pete the Cat: Five Little Pumpkins
Five little pumpkins is a Halloween song for kids. The song goes through different emotions with the pumpkins, and though I don’t know the song, I feel like a parent could use it to help a little one with different emotions. This book however does not follow the lyrics of the song and does not have the pumpkins working through various emotions - which was the true value of the song.
We’re not big Halloween fans for little ones, we try our hardest to not let little ones feel fear for the first several years of life, and with Halloween there’s too much out that unnecessarily can scare a little one.
So, unless a little one loves Pete the Cat and the parents aren’t concerned about Halloween related issues for little brains, I’d skip the book and sing the song.
Cautions: This book was borderline between the categories of skip it and read it once. This story is not nearly as scary as some of the other versions of five little pumpkins that we have read but it still has some aspects of Halloween that are meant to scare in the story.
