Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

There’s not much in this story that we enjoyed. The main character, Alexander, complains throughout the entire story. The drawings aren’t bad, but they are what you would expect from a black and white photograph - a descriptive illustration of Alexander’s day - and Alexander is drawn angry throughout most of the book. Alexander is unhappy, mean, selfish, and entitled. He has no ability to deal with difficult situations or emotions. We waited the entire story for some sort of redemption that never came. No one demonstrates mature behavior and Alexander is never taught anything. It is left up to the reader to teach any little one that hears this story that Alexander’s behavior should not be imitated - and that can be done without reading the story and putting the behavior on display for a little one.

Cautions: This book has all sorts of bad behaviors without any sort of correction or thought that the behaviors are negative behaviors. There’s not a page that I would want my little one to imitate.
