Good Dog, Carl
We found this book on some well known entity’s list of great books. But neither my little one or I liked it. And we both love dogs.
I think the author is trying to be funny. And this is just a guess, but Carl could very well be a metaphor for a husband/dad or an uncle or someone that watches the author’s child. But there is a lot of behavior in here I didn’t like showing to my little one and the entire book is 12 words long. The rest is just illustrations (which are well done drawings) of the dog and baby getting into trouble.
Not to mention the entire basis of the story is the mom leaving the dog and baby home alone for the day. Yikes.
After I thought about it, I remember reading this book years ago and I do believe this is part of a series of books with Carl as the main character. As we read more we’ll let each one stand on its own as we try to do with every series.
Cautions: There is a decent amount of bad behavior…
