The Crayons Trick or Treat
This is a derivative of or a follow up to The Day the Crayons Quit and we love The Day the Crayons Quit. It is a fantastic book and depending on when this review is read it either is or will be listed under favorites as it’s one of our absolute favorites.
However, this book is not that book. Same author and illustrator but there is nothing clever about this book and most of the text is conversation by the crayons that can be difficult to follow. The story itself didn’t need to be the crayons, the characters could have been any sort of character and the beige crayon’s part of the conversation seems unnecessary or odd for the story, especially if you haven’t read The Day the Crayons Quit. You really need to read or be familiar with The Day the Crayons Quit for this one to make sense.
Nothing wrong with the book if you do choose to read it, but there are so many great little kids’ books out there I would spend my time reading something else (especially if you are not a huge fan of Halloween).
Cautions: This is a Halloween book so there are normal costumes and scary costumes and attempts to frighten. Some parents and some kids will be more sensitive to this.
