The Cow Loves Cookies
We love Karma Wilson. Her bear books are awesome. But this one wasn’t quite on par with the bear books. It’s not a bad book to read in any way, but it’s also not one we would seek out to buy for ourselves or someone else.
The story behind it is a bit funny, a cow that loves cookies, and the reasoning (I won’t give it away) is definitely a thought most every American child on earth has had at one point or another. The illustrations are also fun, colorful and realistic to the point I think any child could imagine what life on a farm is like. The pictures also seem to give personalities to the different animals.
But the story itself seems a bit disjointed and repetitive, with only a couple pages or even lines of the whole book telling the actual story. It’s jumpy when you read, it doesn’t flow great, and there’s at least one spot where it seems a line that was supposed to be on one page ended up on the following page. I can’t put my finger on the why it is a jumpy read, but it seems like the book was rushed.
But again, my little one did enjoy the book, she stayed focused on the book the entire time we were reading and we have read it more than once. Another positive is it is possible, if the parent or one reading wants to add this, to have an educational aspect about animals and a farm complementing the story.
Cautions: It’’s not really a big deal, but the only thought I have is the focus on sweets. Half of the time when we read this one our little one wants to have a cookie! :)
