A Tree Is Nice
This a story simple story about a tree. It describes trees, how they grow, what you can do with a tree (like climb it or lay in its shade). In the end it talks about planting trees and could be educational with a little intent from the reader to the ears listening.
The language is simple, but even with the simplicity it held my little one’s attention. I assume the target audience are the younger of the little ones.
It seems the illustrations are why the book held my little one’s attention well. The story itself is not very imaginative and not one we would look to keep on the bookshelf or give as a gift, but there’s nothing wrong with getting it from the library. If you want it more for the pictures than the writing, it did win a Caldecott Medal and the pictures are beautiful and steal the show - the medal and the illustrations are actually why we picked it up to read it.
Cautions: Nothing.
