Robert’s Snow

This is a cute story about a family of mice and the beauty and fun of snow. The illustrations are cartoonish but cute and match the feel of the story. I’m never certain if this is the best word to describe stories like this, but it’s descriptive versus imaginative. It goes through a day in the life, plus a little more, of the youngest mouse. The story does discuss the snow as being scary and I don’t like that it could put that into a little one’s mind, but it didn’t really seem to make an impression on my little one and the story was well received. However, I don’t know how a little one that has never seen snow would think about the scary snow commentary, as we live in a northern climate and even at a very young age my little one is used to and fascinated by snow. I also didn’t overly appreciate that the story calls the man an animal, though, I do understand the comment when you look at it from the mouse’s point of view.

Cautions: The littlest mouse does get scared out in the snow, and the story talks about the snow being scary, which could upset the younger ears, or make a child concerned about the snow, but for the most part, nothing here to worry about!
