A Bad Case of Stripes

The story and illustrations in this book caused way too many questions for my little one. It’s a good lesson, basically, not to be ashamed of who you are, but the book was more (what I would guess to be) a bad acid trip. I will say the colors in the illustrations are pretty. The story is well illustrated (which is ironically part of the problem.) And it all started out ok, with the stripes and patterns on the main character’s skin, but when Camilla turned into objects my little one got very concerned and confused and a little afraid. My little one then got obsessed with a few pages in the book, but not in a good way or for good reasons. There were repeated questions and staring and at least one bad dream. So, I’d skip this one until a child is a lot older.

Cautions: In addition to the warnings in the description above, kids make fun of Camilla, the main character, and the illustrations do really reflect well how mean they are being.
