Have You Seen My Acorn?
This is a story about a squirrel that “loses” his acorn, which actually opened a door for us to discuss the seasons and how seeds grow into mature plants. That piece wasn’t explicit in the story, but it was easy to talk about it based on the story. The illustrations are cartoonish, but my little one enjoyed them and the educational aspect was a bonus. One of the adults here loved the book but the other was concerned about language and one animal interaction described below.
Cautions: We’ve learned that little ones learn a lot by the language they hear in stories and this one has a bit of rudeness to it. It’s not pervasive in the story, but the squirrel is impatient and cuts off other animals - patterns of speech we don’t prefer our little one hears. There’s also an interaction where the fox implies he’s going to eat the squirrel, which raised some questions and concerns for my little one - even when I didn’t read it word for word.
