Dr. Seuss Books (favorites)
Overall, we love Dr. Seuss books. The silliness, the rhyming and the rhythm are all beneficial for little ones to hear. We started reading Dr. Seuss very young and certain ones are still requested regularly. Some of these books have caused a lot of giggles and tongue twisting. These are the comments on the books we have read and loved.
As with many series of books that have a lot of books written over a long period of time, there are parts of stories or maybe books overall we’d skip. These are not in this list, but are listed in a separate entry in the other category.
The Cat in the Hat (1957): As my little one got a little older, I got a lot more questions on this story. The mom (there’s no mention of dad) leaves two kids, kids that are drawn to look pretty young, at home alone. The Cat is pretty reckless with stuff in the house, makes a mess, and doesn’t listen to the fish that gets upset. The Things are naughty and wild. Some may want to skip it for any one of those reasons. But overall, the story is fun, especially in a Dr. Seuss kind of fun, if you don’t think about it too deeply (which a little one probably won’t be doing.) But when my little one was really little, the three stooge nature of the cat and the chasing of the Things caused a lot of giggles.
I Can Read with My Eyes Shut (1978): As we read a wide variety of Dr. Seuss, there’s not much to find fault with in his simpler stories. The stories have a rhythm and a rhyme to them that little ones love and the silliness is always enjoyed. This is one of those stories. I also enjoyed the fact that my little one repeatedly pointed out that if we closed our eyes we wouldn’t have been able to read the story.
