While we had some reservations about the next book in this series, Knight Owl and Early Bird, but this book is less scary and more interesting than the other. So, we wouldn’t skip this one but still caution about the drawings. They are very dark and can be a bit scary, even if less of an issue than the next book. There are knights in several of the illustrations, and they have their faces and bodies covered with armor and are huge relative to the little owl, so my little one was both curious and a bit scared. But I don’t think scared enough to skip reading at least once. However, this is definitely for an older audience. In addition to the knights, there is also a huge dragon, that in the end my little one found cute and wanted it to be my little one’s friend too, but when it is first introduced to the story the illustrations are scary. Huge, dark creature with menacing features and big bright fire. Little owl is cute though.

The story here is great. Little owl who wants to do something big and works hard to accomplish it. Creatures of all sorts that find friendship and common interests over pizza.

Cautions: Great story, scary illustrations (see above.) Definitely for an older audience.
